In the Irregular Verbs Rap ESL project, students create and perform a rap that incorporates all forms of different irregular verbs.

Setup
With more than one student, divide the class into groups of two or three. Each student will need their notebook or a piece of paper.
If possible, prepare a slow generic rap beat to play in the background.
Project
- If you have a projector and Internet connection available, show the students a YouTube video of an ESL teacher doing this kind of rap. Otherwise, give the students an example of the same format, with each irregular verb said in all three forms (base form, past, and past participle).
- In their groups, students create their own irregular verbs rap, with a minimum of ten different verbs.
- Each student should write it in their notebook as practise and to refer to while performing.
- The groups take turns performing their rap for the class. With kids, you could even encourage them to dress up and make props like microphones.
Target Language
The Irregular Verbs Rap ESL project is a really fun way for students to study the past and past participle forms of irregular verbs while learning the present perfect simple. As such it is most suited to low intermediate students. It is primarily designed for kids, but could work with the right adult class too.
